Universe Cell & Dish 'Live @ Five Show' with Glenn Curry

Heard daily on Watertown's AM1240, Glenn Curry offers an outside look at the top local and national issues.

Monday, July 31, 2006

Look who stopped by the studio, it's Mr. Bruce Mittman. Bruce, along with Jim Leven are now the owners of AM1240's 'Live At Five' Show. Bruce spoke candidly with Glenn about the 'state' of radio and the future plans for 199 Wealtha Ave. Callers chimed in with their own support, while others demonstrated how 'frigged-up' they actually are. I guess Bruce and Jim will understand that Watertown has its share of lunatics! Good radio industry talk too, including Bruce's account of the 'Opie & Anthony Show'. See you tomorrow!

Politics, Van Waldick, Council decisions and yes, why can't one purhase one stamp at a time at a Kinney Drug store. These and other exciting and not so exciting stories and events on today's show. Good however, it's always good!

What can you say about teens knocking over tombstones? One caller suggests their penalty should be working in the cemetary untile their financial committments are met. Other topics this afternoon included an account of Glenn's friend Barry injuring his hand on a table saw, he's going to be ok though. Speaking of cemetaries, another lady chimed in about the history of a cemetary behind Severance Photo. Some suggest some remains are still there today, creepy huh? A little talk about A-Rod and Congressman John McHugh is one of Capital Hill's most attractive people. It's good to see our Congressman is good at something! Oh good Godfather talk too, when the story of a councilwomen in Orange County found a horse's head in her swimming pool. Glenn acted like Mr. Woltz from the movie and had a lot of fun with it.

Some serious news to start today's show, that would be discussed later in the show. A 21 year old man took his life this morning and another 18 year old in Massena stabbed and killed a man in an apparent jealous rage. This led Glenn to open the lines to ponder why crimes and events like this occur in the first place. Sam Verbeck gave his thougths, while Russell Bledsoe gave his own spin on things as well. Good movie talk too with Russell and Crazy Ray is going to miss the Wizards after tonight's last game. Other than that, it was a quick moving show which also included Glenn's criticism of Howard Stern today. See you tomorrow!

Hey now! We're back from Toronto and plenty to talk about. First, an inside look at lakeside life with Glenn & Sharon. They both had a 'bug' of a time last Thursday. Seems some bugs 'hatch' all of a sudden and take over all the lights and TV set. A lot of Toronto talk, including fans who never shut up. Good weekend though, despite the fact the Yankees lost 3 of 4. Paul Simmons called to plug tomorrow night's last Wizzards game. Oh, good call with a girl from Cleveland too, who thought Glenn was someone else. Good to be back, and another good show!

Looks like Glenn is losing listenership on the 'Hotline' show. This happened when Glenn stopped by the studio during the Noon show and a caller asked Jeff if the 'Hotline' show was his or Glenns'. More sympathies for the 'Adams Ctr. Dude' and the 'lovely' Sharon came into the studio the day before Glenn and Sharon head out to see the Yankees in Toronto. There was a revealation today, the young 18 year old man who robbed a bank in Adams Ctr. was actually on the show with Glenn several years ago! Unbelieveable right? Especially when the young man was presented as a good student at JCC and 'Home-Schooled'. Wow, what are they doing up there in St. Lawrence County. Apparently 26 counts of sexual misconduct will only land you 18 months in jail. Hope you have a great weekend! Glenn will be back next Monday! Oh, someone asked Sharon why she married Glenn too, a must listen!

Sad news today, Mike Duffany, a.ka. 'Adams Center Dude' passed away this afternoon. Although we knew his passing was imminent, it was still hard to hear. After Glenn played a special tribute song, he took several callers who remembered Mike and his many phone calls. 'Crazy Ray' was in the studio too today, and boy what a combo this was. Good stuff including a proposal to hook Victor and Samantha together for a date on the St. Lawrence River. Oh, Glenn is trying hard to help out his new singer friend 'Jag' but Jag has to accept some responsibility first. See you tomorrow!

Yea, it may be hot outside, but not too hot to listen to some chlling talk on today's show. Actually nothing chilling today, other than a new feature on NewzJunky that allows us to read North Country Briefs without a newspaper. Sean Hennessey came in and chat with Glenn for the second part of the show. Good political talk and some ribbing from George about Sean's policies in Black River. See you tomorrow!

Good to be back from the 'island', that's Long Island. Glenn and Sharon were part of the Baptism events at George M's house. Too bad about the founder of 'Hooters' dying at age 69. Wait there's a joke here, at Hooters you show us a smile, and we'll show you our ti... Hooters. Get it the give and receive nature of the number 69. Anyway, the hot weather has brought out Watertown's scrorniest, and Glenn isn't so happy about that. Skip shared some thoughts, and Victor is still interested in meeting Samantha.

Whew! It's hot out there today! Of course it was hot inside the AM1240 studio as well, but that didn't stop Glenn from bringing up today's local issues. More about the 'alleged' incident between a 14 year old girl and a South Jeff teacher. Several people questioned the incident by asking what if it weren't true? If that's the case Glenn asked, would the local media react the same way they did yesterday when the story first hit. Glenn also had fun with the 'Witness Protection' guy from NYC, and good comments about Tuesday's All Star game. Oh, who do you call when you want to speak to someone about more lights at a crucial intersection. See you tomorrow!

Wow, looks like another teacher is in the midst of his own sex scandal with a 14 year old in South Jefferson. This and other topics are included on this abbreviated episode. That's right the computer crapped out on Glenn in the first 15 minutes. Good show none the less.

Cor is on Target to create a second mall environment! Glenn and Sam Verback discussed the latest 'Box' store and the dangerour intersection near Seaway Plaza. The Duff was motivated to call Glenn about the bathroom mess at the Duffy Dome. Who's making bad movies today? Glenn says everyone is, and we're stuck watching them. Adams Ctr. Dudes' son called and described his civilian job in Fort Polk. Oh, Glenn found the Documentary Channel on Satellite and loved it.

Have you lost a foot lately? Someone did up around Mudd Lake. That and other local mysteries walked onto the show today. Glenn feels local authorities conceal the 'simple' details about a body or foot. The simple details could assist in an investigation when revealed to the public. Wow, disaster at the Curry residence when Glenn's TV remote broke! Seems the Arcade is truly the meeting place for 'rumor' junkies. Skip Howe came in to give his idea of Sunday's Jeff Gorder Matt Kenseth ordeal. Good show to start the week!

Today's Friday version took an odd turn when Glenn requested listeners check in on his studio cams. Listen and see why. Other than that, it was pretty active today, with references to Jeff Gragham's radio show and his reluctance to stare a problem right back in the eye. Also, Ezra chimed in with a report from this weekends' 'French Festival' in Cape Vincent. Our pharmacist friend came in too with Syracuse Sky Chief tickets.

This is Wednesdays' show, which was lost on the internet for a day, but came back. Good show too, with a lot of last night's fireworks and city stuff. Enjoy!

What did you think when you visited the Thompson Park Zoo recently? One person wrote an extensive letter to the paper indicating disappointment, others today agreed. Glenn spent some quality time with the Adam Ctr. Dude and his brothers on Saturday. How long is 15 years to you? Listen to the show and see how short a decade and a half actually is. Oh, some thoughts about law enforcement authorities in a post 911 era. Good to be back!
